The son of Ismael Zambada, also known as "El Mayo," and Joaquin Guzman, also known as "El Chapo," founders of the Mexican drug cartel Sinaloa, Joaquin Guzman Lopez, has been arrested in the state of Texas, USA.

The leader of one of the world's most powerful drug cartels, Ismael Zambada, also known as "El Mayo," and the son of the organization's other founder, Joaquin Guzman, also known as "El Chapo," Joaquin Guzman Lopez, have been arrested in El Paso, Texas, USA.

"THE MOST DEADLY DRUG THREAT WE HAVE FACED SO FAR"

US Attorney General Merrick Garland made a written statement about the matter. Garland stated that the two individuals were leading "the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organization in the world," and said, "El Mayo and Guzman Lopez are included in the growing list of Sinaloa cartel leaders and associates held responsible by the US Department of Justice. Fentanyl is the most deadly drug threat our country has faced so far, and the Department of Justice will not stop until we hold accountable every single drug cartel leader, member, and associate that poisons our society."

FBI Director Chris Wray, in his statement on the matter, used the phrase, "The arrests are an example of the FBI's and our partners' determination to dismantle violent transnational criminal organizations like the Sinaloa cartel."

American prosecutors state that the Sinaloa cartel is the largest drug supplier in the US. Zambada, 76 years old, founded Sinaloa in the late 1980s together with Joaquin Guzman, who is currently imprisoned in the US under the nickname "El Chapo."
