Mexico: Drug Kingpin Carrillo Fuentes Gets 28 Years In Jail

15.09.2021 00:27

Carrillo Fuentes was apprehended in October 2014 in northern state of Coahuila.

Vicente Carrillo Fuentes, the former leader of the Juarez Cartel, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for drug trafficking, Mexican authorities said Tuesday.

Carrillo Fuentes' charges include organized crime to commit crimes against health, operations with illicit origin resources, and weapons collection.

Carrillo was apprehended in October 2014 in the northern state of Coahuila. Carrillo was one of the five criminals wanted by the Drug Enforce Agency or DEA the most.

Charged for multiple crimes, Carrillo has been blamed for escalating violence in the northern state of Chihuahua, prompting the city of Juarez as one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

Vicente Carrillo Fuentes took hold of the Juarez Cartel in 1997 after his brother Amado Carrillo, known as The Lord of the Skies, died during a plastic surgery, which he allegedly underwent to change his physical appearance in order to avoid detention.

The DEA named the Juarez Cartel as one of the leading distributors of illegal substances through the US border; The FBI also had its finger on Carrillo for homicide, money laundering, and drug trafficking charges.

Back then US offered $5 million for information that led to his arrest.

Since his arrest in 2014, the disgraced drug lord has appealed his case numerous times. Even achieving constitutional protection in 2016 for alleged irregularities in his apprehension.

Despite this, a judge returned to order formal imprisonment the following year. -
