"Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, responding to claims that he would be included in the European Parliament's sanctions list, said, 'European Parliament reports are political texts of an advisory nature. Targeting the judicial institutions of the Republic of Türkiye through these texts is a futile effort directed at the national will and the sovereign rights of our state.'"
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek made statements regarding the allegations related to the draft report to be voted on in the European Parliament.
In his response to the claims that he would be included in the sanctions list, Minister Gürlek's statement included the following:
"The Republic of Türkiye is an independent and sovereign country with a deep-rooted state tradition, committed to the principle of a democratic state of law. The Turkish judiciary renders its decisions within the framework of the constitution, laws, and the judicial authority it holds on behalf of our nation.
Distorting ongoing judicial processes in Türkiye, conducting political campaigns based on files that are still under investigation, and making baseless allegations against the Turkish judiciary and my person is a stance that can only be explained by ideological prejudices.
"WHAT MATTERS TO US IS THE DECISIONS OF INDEPENDENT TURKISH COURTS"
This politically charged approach, fueled by certain circles in the European Parliament, undermines the credibility of the institutions these individuals represent. What matters to us is the conscience of our noble nation and the decisions of independent Turkish courts.
"EP REPORTS ARE POLITICAL TEXTS OF ADVISORY NATURE"
European Parliament reports are political texts of advisory nature. Targeting the judicial institutions of the Republic of Türkiye through these texts is a futile effort against the national will and the sovereign rights of our state.
It would also be appropriate for a European Parliament member, who has been a subject of debate on various topics from their tenure in municipal governance to election campaign processes, to examine the discussions on transparency, ethics, and accountability that have been reflected in the public opinion regarding their own political career.
Türkiye resolutely continues its fight against terrorism, organized crime groups, corruption, and all forms of lawlessness. This struggle cannot be hindered by political pressure campaigns waged from within or outside.
"THE JUDICIARY OF THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE CANNOT BE SUBJECTED TO PRESSURE OR TUTELAGE"
Let no one be under the illusion that they can place the judiciary of the Republic of Türkiye under pressure or tutelage. We will continue to fulfill our duty for the peace of our nation, the survival of our state, and the protection of our legal order."
