Justice Minister Akın Gürlek stated that a legislative work regarding social media is on the agenda and revealed the details of the regulation for the first time. Minister Gürlek said, "With the upcoming regulation, if a person is committing a reputation assassination on social media, they will do it with their real identity. Those who act as keyboard warriors will do it with their real identity." Gürlek expressed that users who target an individual or make posts that constitute a crime may face legal proceedings directly.

MINISTER GÜRLEK REVEALED DETAILS FOR THE FIRST TIME
Speaking to Hande Fırat from Hürriyet Newspaper, Minister Gürlek shared the details of the regulation regarding social media with the public for the first time.
UNVERIFIED ACCOUNTS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHARE
With the new social media regulation, identity verification will be essential on social media platforms. Sharing will not be allowed from unverified accounts.
"IF SOMEONE IS GOING TO PUBLISH A POST, THEIR IDENTITY WILL BE KNOWN"
Minister Gürlek stated, "If a person is going to comment on social media or publish a post, their identity will be known. They will not be able to do this with a fake account or a 'fake' account from abroad." It was reported that the Information Technologies and Communications Authority will be involved in the process after the regulation is enacted.
TRANSITION PROCESS AND ACCOUNT VERIFICATION
The new system foresees a transition process. During this period, users will need to verify their accounts with their real identities. Gürlek mentioned that if verification is not done, fake accounts will be closed. It was also stated that the regulation will cover not only users within Turkey but also citizens abroad. For users living abroad, verification can be done with a passport, and the process will be completed with a verification message sent to their mobile phone.
"KEYBOARD BRAVERY" AND CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY
Minister Gürlek emphasized that the regulation aims to prevent anonymous attacks referred to as "character assassination" and "keyboard bravery." He noted that with the new system, the criminal responsibility of individuals whose identities are clear in social media posts will also be clarified, stating that users who target an individual or make posts that constitute a crime may face legal proceedings directly.
