"WE CHANGED THE CURRICULUM; WE WANT CHILDREN TO READ FATİHA AND LEARN"

In his speech here, Minister Tekin recalled that they have implemented the Turkey Century Education Model and changed the curriculum. He explained that they want children to learn customs and traditions and take their grandparents and fathers as examples, stating: "(Opposition) They say 'Let them not learn.' I say, 'Let's officially include this in schools, and our teachers should teach it as part of the lesson.' The guys come out and say, 'You are reactionary.' I say, 'The Turkey Century Education Model is exactly this.' We want our children to learn their traditions, customs, and culture. We are not saying they should not learn other things. They will learn those too, but they should learn this so that this society can live together. When there is an earthquake or fire tomorrow, they can help each other. When someone is in trouble nearby, they should read a Fatiha for the deceased and learn condolences. We want them to go to the graves of their ancestors and grandparents, read prayers, and learn these things. Are we doing something bad? They criticize me on television every day for saying this. Children should first learn our language. How can we teach English or math to a child who cannot speak their language properly? We have started this. They even object to this. I say, 'Anatolia is behind me, say what you want.'
