An opposition member of the Indian Parliament criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting Israel, stating, "We salute the Iranian religious leader Khamenei! He, unlike you, did not kneel before America; on the contrary, he showed courage." This statement sparked a debate in the assembly.
Tensions rose in the Indian Parliament due to the war in the Middle East and the support given to Israel. A dissenting member of parliament criticized the government harshly for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support for Israel.
"WE SALUTE IRAN'S RELIGIOUS LEADER KHAMENEI"
In his speech, the member of parliament cited Iran's religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as an example, stating, "We salute Iran's religious leader Khamenei! He did not kneel before America, unlike you; on the contrary, he showed courage."
While the statement caused debates in parliament, it also brought criticisms of the Modi government's Middle East policy back to the forefront.
ISRAEL SUPPORT IS CAUSING CONTROVERSY
In recent years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration has significantly strengthened military, economic, and diplomatic relations with Israel. India is seen as one of Israel's largest partners in defense technology and intelligence.
However, the escalation of the war between Iran and the US-Israel has also increased political debates regarding the government's foreign policy in India. Some opposition politicians argue that the New Delhi administration has become too close to the US and Israel.
TENSIONS RISE IN PARLIAMENT
The criticisms made by the opposition through Khamenei led to heated debates in the assembly. The ruling party responded to the criticisms by asserting that India's foreign policy is conducted in line with national interests.
Experts indicate that India is trying to balance its relations with both Israel and Iran, but the war in the Middle East is increasingly making this balance difficult.
