Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made statements regarding the 'corruption' and 'terror' investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and the detention of IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu.
"WHOEVER HAS EATEN THE RIGHTS OF AN INNOCENT CHILD WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY THE JUDICIARY"
Referring to the 'street' call made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Minister Tunç stated, "The judiciary is not influenced by street movements. The judiciary works on behalf of the nation. Whoever has eaten the rights of an innocent child will be held accountable by the judiciary. Therefore, we invite Özgür Özel to act with common sense."
Minister Tunç's statement on the matter is as follows:
"THE PROCESSES OF 90 PEOPLE AT THE POLICE CONTINUE"
In the investigation conducted by the Organized Crimes Investigation Bureau, detention orders were issued for 100 people on charges of bribery, rigging tenders, qualified fraud, and unlawfully obtaining personal data. A total of 106 people have been processed. The processes of 90 people at the police continue. Efforts to capture 16 others are ongoing. There are 90 people whose processes at the police are continuing. Their interrogations will be conducted by the Peace Criminal Court.
"WE REJECT THE STATEMENT 'THEY ARE MANAGING THE STATE LIKE A CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION'"
Mr. Özel's use of such expressions is not the path that the CHP is following. Ultimately, there is an ongoing investigation. We reject the statement 'They are managing the state like a criminal organization.' Turkey is a rule of law state. It cannot act outside the law or behave like a criminal organization. We absolutely reject these statements. The street call is definitely not correct. It also harms them. The judicial investigation is ongoing. What are the allegations in the investigation, what is the evidence, what are those in custody saying... Do you know these? You have no information about the collected evidence, yet you are making statements regarding the judicial investigation. That file will be opened. If an indictment is prepared at the end of the investigation, it will be learned by the entire public. Everyone needs to act with common sense. There is a presumption of innocence here, and there is the confidentiality of the investigation. You are rejecting all these rules. We see broadcasts on TV in favor of or against the secret investigation. Our chief public prosecutors and prosecutors work on behalf of the public. They have initiated an investigation with certain evidence. The relevant individuals will also respond to these allegations.
"THE JUDICIARY IS INDEPENDENT, DOES NOT TAKE ORDERS FROM ANYONE"
Peace Criminal Judges will make a decision. This is also a decision subject to legal oversight. If you are trying to shadow the matter by inciting our youth, you are wasting your efforts. The judiciary is not influenced by street movements. The judiciary works on behalf of the nation. Whoever has eaten the rights of an innocent child will be held accountable by the judiciary. Therefore, we invite Özgür Özel to act with common sense. Associating this investigation with our esteemed President is an impudence. The judiciary is independent. The judiciary exercises the authority granted by Article 138 of our Constitution. It does not take orders from anyone. If there is a crime, the judiciary cannot refrain from addressing it. Therefore, we will all patiently wait for the outcome of the investigation.
