After the security meeting held in Kütahya, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024, the number of Syrians who have voluntarily returned to their country has reached 450,169. Yerlikaya also expressed that the number of Syrians under temporary protection has decreased to 2,506,740 as of August 2025.

The total number of Syrians who have voluntarily returned to their country so far is 1,190,172. In 2022, the number of our Syrian brothers under temporary protection in our country was 3,535,898, while this number has decreased to 2,506,740 as of August 2025. During this process, we are carrying out the voluntary return processes of our Syrian brothers with great sensitivity. With the stabilization of Syria, the number of voluntary returns will continue to increase."
