The family of the 15-year-old youth, who became in need of care, demanded that the defendant, detained on the charge of 'attempted murder,' receive the heaviest sentence at the decision hearing on October 16.
In Çanakkale, at the decision hearing on October 16, the heaviest sentence was demanded for the defendant in the case of 15-year-old Murat Duha Yıldız, who suffered severe brain damage after being beaten in the classroom by a classmate who said “you stepped on my foot,” despite apologizing.
In the incident that took place on September 25, 2025, at İÇDAŞ Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Biga district of Çanakkale, 14-year-old Murat Duha Yıldız was severely injured after being beaten by his classmate Y.C.
While he was going to his desk in his classroom, Murat Duha Yıldız, to whom Y.C. said “You stepped on my foot,” apologized. However, despite this, the argument grew and resulted in a deadly beating.
The treatment of Yıldız, who suffered severe brain damage in the incident, continues at his home in Zonguldak, where he was discharged after the hospital process, accompanied by a physical therapy specialist. The decision hearing for the attacker Y.C., who was arrested after the incident on charges of “attempted murder,” will be held in Çanakkale on October 16. After the incident, the school principal and two vice principals were also suspended.
HE WAS FOUND IN THE CLASSROOM WITH HIS HEART STOPPED
Father Hasan Yıldız, describing that his son was beaten despite apologizing in the incident that occurred 2.5 weeks after school opened, said: “The incident took place on September 25, 2025, at Çanakkale Biga Industrial Vocational High School. When the school was two and a half weeks in, while my child was going to his desk at the end of recess, he accidentally stepped on his friend's foot and turned and apologized, yet his friend beat him again. After the incident, 112 teams came and took the child to the hospital. They found him in the classroom with his heart stopped, lifeless,” he said.
Father Yıldız, who stated that his heart stopped again during the intervention process, continued his words as follows: “We later learned that, as a result of the 112 intervention, he had a heart attack again 3-4 times before reaching the hospital. He was brought to Biga State Hospital. After the first intervention performed there, he was referred to Çanakkale ÇOMÜ University. We also went to ÇOMÜ University with our own means. Our child was taken under treatment in intensive care. After a 45-50 day period in intensive care, we stayed another 15 days in a normal room and were discharged. Then we returned to our hometown, Zonguldak. After re-examinations and tests were performed at the university in Zonguldak, we were discharged to our home. We continue caring for our child at home.”
HE REMAINED WITHOUT OXYGEN FOR 35-40 MINUTES
Touching on the damage caused by the lack of oxygen at the time of the incident, father Hasan Yıldız said: “He remained without oxygen for about 30-35 minutes at school due to the blow his heart received, and since suffocation occurred in the meantime, my child remained without oxygen for 35-40 minutes and brain damage occurred. Right now, we are struggling with the treatment of my child, who is in need of care and bedridden,” he said.
FAMILY WANTS THE HEAVIEST SENTENCE
Conveying his expectation regarding the sentence the defendant will receive, father Yıldız used the following statements: “I want him to receive the heaviest sentence he can get. May such things not happen to other children either. Compared to other cases, my child is one of those who survived. I want him to receive the heaviest sentence. Because when 112 got there, my child was already dead, lifeless. I want him to be punished as if he had been murdered, as if he had died, in the heaviest way possible.”
Yıldız also spoke about his son's character, saying: “He was a joyful, full-of-life child. He never fought or quarreled with anyone. It has been a year since we settled in Karabiga, that town. Over the course of a year, the child made many friends. On Saturdays and Sundays, the child started going to charitable gatherings there, saying, ‘I will help set up Qur'an tables.’ In other words, my child was not a maladjusted child. He was a full-of-life, joyful child, a son.”
Mother Çiğdem Yıldız, combing her son's hair with tears, spoke as follows: “As you can see, we cannot leave him alone. He can neither speak nor eat. At night we are by his side until morning, and during the day we are constantly with him. Because he cannot swallow. I want him to receive the heaviest sentence. Because I am almost looking at a living funeral.”
Mother Çiğdem Yıldız, recalling that her son was a joyful child loved in his circle of friends, included the following statements: “When we go to Biga, I am so amazed. I go from courthouse to courthouse. Even people older than me ask about my son. He carried their bags for them. He always helped them. If my child were a bad child, would he do this? Even his friends there still ask about him.”
