In the program broadcast on TV100, a debate occurred between Mustafa Balbay and Sinan Burhan over the definition of "artist." The controversy, ignited by a comparison to "Shakespeare," raised the tension in the studio.
In the program aired on TV100 last night, evaluations regarding some names being referred to as "artists" after recent operations that have come to the agenda sparked controversy. Sinan Burhan, the General Editor of the Millet News Agency, reacted strongly to the characterization of names such as Ela Rümeysa Cebeci, Derin Talu, and Şeyma Subaşı as artists.
"WHAT PART OF THEM IS SHAKESPEARE?"
Sinan Burhan argued that these individuals are negative examples for society and young people, stating, "They form groups, use drugs, and set a bad example for the youth. What part of them is Shakespeare?"
OBJECTION FROM BALBAY
Mustafa Balbay, a columnist for Cumhuriyet newspaper, objected to Burhan's remarks. Balbay stated that the concept of art cannot be narrowed down in this way, saying, "They are all artists. Shakespeare is the greatest value of the English. We must appreciate the worth of an artist."
TENSE MOMENTS IN THE STUDIO
Balbay's reference to Shakespeare caused an increase in tension in the studio. While the debate continued with Sinan Burhan's words, "Are they Shakespeare?", moments when program guest Deniz Ülke Arıboğan reacted to Balbay's statements with laughter drew attention.
