Natural gas explosion in Izmir: 4 injured

In the Bornova district of İzmir, a natural gas explosion occurred in an apartment, injuring a total of 4 people, including 2 passersby. The fire that broke out after the explosion was extinguished by the fire department, while the apartment became uninhabitable.

A blast occurred in an apartment on the 3rd floor of a 7-story building in Bornova around 00:15. Citizens in the vicinity, who heard the explosion believed to be caused by a gas leak, reported the situation to the fire department, medical, and police teams. During this time, a fire broke out in the apartment, and the building was evacuated. Firefighters who arrived at the scene intervened in the flames and rescued citizens trapped in the building.

PASSERSBY WERE EVEN INJURED

In the explosion and the subsequent fire, 4 people were injured. It was reported that one of the injured was in the apartment where the explosion occurred, one lived in the same building, and the other two were citizens passing by at that time. The injured were taken to Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital by ambulance after the first intervention of the medical teams at the scene. After the explosion, the apartment on the 3rd floor became completely unusable.

Immediately after the explosion, damage occurred to the windows of nearby cafes and businesses. Those moments were captured on security camera footage. In the footage, it can be seen that the windows of the business broke with the explosion and citizens fled in panic.
