In inspections carried out at a bakery in the Tarsus district of Mersin, stomach-churning scenes emerged. Pests were detected in 660 kilograms of dough prepared for use in bread production. While the dough was destroyed, administrative proceedings were initiated against businesses found to have practices violating regulations, and one business was fined with 17 separate administrative penalties for 17 violations.
Teams from the Tarsus Municipality Police Department and Health Affairs Directorate conducted comprehensive inspections at pide bakeries and simit bakeries operating throughout the city.
PESTS FOUND INSIDE THE DOUGH
Based on reports received via the 'Alo 153 TIM' hotline, inspections carried out under the coordination of the Tarsus Municipality Food Safety Directorate meticulously evaluated business opening and operating licenses, physical conditions of production areas, hygiene standards, and personnel compliance with regulations.
During the inspections, pests were detected in 660 kilograms of dough prepared for bread production, and the dough was subsequently destroyed.
17 DIFFERENT ADMINISTRATIVE FINES IMPOSED
Necessary warnings were given to businesses to address identified deficiencies, and legal proceedings were initiated against operators acting contrary to regulations. During the inspections, 17 different administrative fines were imposed on one business due to 17 identified violations.

Tarsus Mayor Ali Boltaç, commenting on the inspections, stated that ensuring citizens' access to safe food is among the municipality's priorities, and said, "We do not compromise on any matter concerning the health of our people. Our teams continue their work in the field with determination. We will continue to oppose any negativity that could risk public health."
