Russians who could not pass the difficult exams in their country have turned to Turkey. Here, they enroll in driving schools and obtain driver's licenses, which they can then exchange for licenses in their home country.
A striking sector has begun to emerge in Turkey, where Russians come for vacation, purchasing property, or health tourism. Now, Russians prefer Turkey to overcome the difficulties of the driving license exams in their own country; afterwards, they can exchange their Russian licenses for Turkish ones by passing written exams. Another option for Russians is Georgia.
The reason for this is that the driving license exams in the country are very easy, and often no driving training is required. Russians who want to obtain a driving license in Turkey benefit from health services while also spending time in holiday resorts. This situation contributes to the economy of provinces like Antalya and Mersin.
DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN IN RUSSIA
Cengizhan Kutlu, the President of the Association of Traffic Safety and Psychotechnical Centers, shared that since 1989, driver training has been provided through private companies under the name of motor vehicle driver courses in Turkey. Speaking about Russians obtaining driving licenses from Turkey, Kutlu stated, "Driving license exams in Russia have become more difficult. Candidates can now retake the exams three times, but there will be a one-week interval between each exam. In case of a third failure, they will have to wait six months to be accepted for the next exam. Candidates who fail in their attempts will have to start everything over again. Previously, to pass the practical exam, candidates needed to have a maximum of four penalty points, which has now changed. Now, candidates who accumulate up to six penalty points will have their exam considered valid," he expressed.
PRICES ARE MORE AFFORDABLE
Officials from driving schools we spoke to in Antalya stated that there is a high demand from Russians. One driving school official said, "The exam in Turkey is both easy and more affordable. Some also take exams to convert their Russian licenses to Turkish ones. Generally, there are more Russian students in the districts of Konyaaltı and Alanya. Although we face some issues with the language, we manage to resolve them," he explained.
