In the case of 8-year-old Narin Güran, which deeply affected Turkey, three defendants, mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and uncle Salim Güran, were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, while Nevzat Bahtiyar received a 4-year and 6-month prison sentence. Following the decision, the lawyers of Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to carrying Narin's body and leaving it in a stream, appealed against their client's detention. Bahtiyar's lawyers Adnan Ataş and Ali Eryılmaz submitted a petition to the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court, which is conducting the trial, requesting their client's release to be sent to the Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court. LAWYER ALİ ERYILMAZ: NARİN WAS KILLED DUE TO AN ACT INVOLVING SEXUALITYLawyer Ali Eryılmaz, who drew attention with his statements during the trial process and social media posts, made a striking statement regarding why Narin was killed. Eryılmaz emphasized that there is no other possibility and used the following expressions: The most important clue regarding why Narin was killed is the PSA detected during the autopsy from the vaginal area, underwear, and other clothing. This incident can clearly be explained by an act involving "sexuality" or as a consequence of such an act. The result is singular: Narin was killed due to an act involving "sexuality." She was either a direct subject or a witness. There is no other possibility! WHAT DOES 'SUJE' MEAN?The term 'Sujesi' used by Eryılmaz in legal language means; a person who has a status of their own in the trial and contributes to the progress of the trial with actions they will carry out independently of other individuals. WHAT HAPPENED?Narin Güran, who went missing in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the Bağlar district in Diyarbakır on August 21, was found dead in the Eğertutmaz stream on September 8. In the investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 12 out of 23 suspects, including mother Yüksel, brother Enes, uncle Salim Güran, and neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar, were arrested. The investigation against Yüksel, Enes, Salim Güran, and Nevzat Bahtiyar was completed, and an indictment prepared with a request for aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional murder of a child in participation" was accepted by the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court on October 23. The trial of the defendants began on November 7, and the first hearing, which lasted for 3 days, was postponed to December 26 with a decision to continue the detention of the defendants. After the first hearing, the public prosecutor submitted a 14-page opinion to the court during the recess.
