It has emerged that Ali Eren Somun, the estranged husband of Sinem Somun, who was killed in Trabzon, called Sinem's grandfather two weeks before the incident and said, "I can no longer stop my son. From this point on, I am not responsible for what will happen to your granddaughter." One month before the atrocity, Ali Eren Somun, who had been making threats saying, "I will declare war on you," will appear before a judge for the first time today.
A horrifying brutality occurred in the Beşikdüzü district of Trabzon on July 31, 2025. Ali Eren Somun (30), who violated a restraining order against him, climbed in through the back balcony of an apartment in Adacık Neighborhood and argued with his estranged wife Sinem Somun (27), who was in the process of divorce. As the argument escalated, neighbors who heard the commotion informed the guards outside.
ENTERED THE HOUSE FROM THE BALCONY AND MURDERED HIS WIFE
In the ensuing struggle, Ali Eren Somun shot his wife with a gun. Sinem Somun, who was shot in the leg and back, lost her life. The fleeing suspect also fired at a guard who arrived at the scene. One of the bullets hit the leg of the on-duty guard E.E. The guard, who underwent surgery, was discharged after treatment. Sinem Somun, who graduated from Mersin University’s Ship Transportation department and was preparing to start as a captain on the ship she worked on just 10 days after the incident, was buried in Giresun.
CHANGED HIS IMAGE TO AVOID RECOGNITION, CAUGHT IN THE FOREST
After the incident, the suspect Ali Eren Somun, who cut his hair, beard, and eyebrows to avoid recognition, was caught in a tent where he was hiding in the forest in Sinop, where he fled on a motorcycle. The suspect was arrested by the judge he was brought before at the courthouse.
Ali Eren Somun was charged with 'premeditated murder of a spouse', 'repeated threats', 'attempted murder of a person due to the public duty he performed', and 'possession of an unlicensed firearm', facing aggravated life imprisonment and up to 25 years in prison at the Trabzon 2nd High Criminal Court.
WROTE A LETTER ABOUT "SİNEM" WITH BULLETS
In the examination of his mobile phone, it was found that Ali Eren Somun had arranged bullets to spell 'Sinem' before the incident. He sent a letter from the prison in Elazığ, where he was held, to Sinem's grandfather Ali Hayri Topaloğlu. In the letter, it was learned that Ali Eren Somun expressed his desire to take his wife's body from Giresun, where she was buried, and lay her to rest in Trabzon, his hometown.
FILED A COMPLAINT 10 DAYS AGO SAYING "I HAVE NO PERSONAL SAFETY"
It was revealed that Sinem Somun, 10 days before the incident in which she was killed, filed a complaint with the Vakfıkebir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, stating, "After I shared on Instagram that '132 women were killed in Turkey in 102 days', my husband threatened to kill me by posting '133'. A restraining order was issued against my husband regarding the events I described in my first statement for about a month. Despite the restraining order, my husband did not comply with it and came home, violating the order. My husband threatened to kill me. I believe my personal safety is at risk. I am worried about my safety. I am taking necessary precautions, but I also have a request for protection to keep me safe," she said.
CALLED SINEM'S GRANDFATHER AND SAID "I CAN'T STOP MY SON"
It was claimed that Sacit Somun, the father of the detained Ali Somun, who will be tried for aggravated life imprisonment and up to 25 years in prison, called Sinem Somun's grandfather on his mobile phone 14 days before the incident and said, "Cut your grandson's leg from Beşikdüzü, send your grandson away from here. I can no longer stop my son, I warn you. From this point on, I am not responsible for what happens to your grandson," he allegedly said.
THREATENED "I WILL DECLARE WAR ON YOU"
Moreover, it was claimed that Ali Eren Somun, who will appear before the judge for the first time today in the case opened against him, threatened Sinem's family by calling them on the phone on June 28, 2025, saying, "I will divorce your granddaughter, I will leave you nothing, including the gold at the wedding, I will show you who Ali Eren Somun is. I am not afraid of anyone, I will declare war on you."
It was learned that Sinem's family filed a complaint with the gendarmerie against the detained suspect and his father after the phone calls.
