In the Köyceğiz district of Muğla, houses were flooded and agricultural areas turned into lakes due to the rising water levels of streams caused by rainfall. The headman of Pınar Neighborhood, Ömer Ali Kanat, stated, "I have not seen such a disaster in a long time. Our suffering is at a high level. We are expecting help from the authorities."
In Muğla Köyceğiz, with the rainfall, the Çakal, Sarımeşe, and Jandarma streams in the Pınar neighborhood overflowed. As a result of the flooding, agricultural lands near the streams were submerged, and some houses experienced water damage. Greenhouses containing tomatoes and strawberries in the region were destroyed.
SOME ROADS WERE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
Security teams closed some roads to traffic for the safety of citizens. Upon receiving a report, teams from the State Hydraulic Works, Forest Management Directorate, Muğla and Köyceğiz Agriculture and Forestry Directorate, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, and Köyceğiz Municipality arrived in the Pınar neighborhood and took precautions by redirecting the water flow to the Yuvarlakçay stream with heavy machinery.
MANY GREENHOUSES WERE DESTROYED, ANIMALS PERISHED
Pınar neighborhood Muhtar Ömer Ali Kanat stated that due to the heavy rainfall affecting the neighborhood in the morning hours, flooding occurred, and he reported the situation to the relevant authorities. Kanat noted that the teams that arrived in the region intervened immediately, saying, "Many greenhouses in our neighborhood were destroyed. Roads and bridges were damaged. There are animals that perished. I have never seen such a disaster before."
"WE ARE WAITING FOR HELP FROM THE AUTHORITIES"
Producer Metin Karabulut, whose greenhouses were damaged, reported that approximately 3 decares of strawberries and ripe tomatoes were harmed in the flood. Emphasizing that they have never encountered such a disaster before, Karabulut said, "Our suffering is at a high level. We are waiting for help from the authorities."
Meanwhile, gendarmerie teams are also working to ensure transportation by taking precautions on the roads where landslides occurred in the region.
