It was stated that the file had been evaluated and concluded by the first instance and appellate authorities, and that no new and concrete evidence had been found to warrant a re-investigation.
A new development has occurred in the judicial process regarding the death of 8-year-old Narin Güran, whose body was found 19 days after she went missing in Diyarbakır. The Güran family's application for the Narin Güran murder to be re-evaluated under the scope of "unknown perpetrator" was rejected.
THE FAMILY'S APPLICATION WAS REJECTED
The request made by Narin Güran's family for the murder to be re-examined under the scope of "unknown perpetrator" was not accepted. The decision stated that the case file had been publicly evaluated and concluded by the first-instance court, the appellate court, and the court of cassation.
"NO NEW AND CONCRETE EVIDENCE FOUND"
In the rejection of the Güran family's request for re-evaluation under the scope of "unknown perpetrator," the fact that the case file had already been examined by judicial authorities and that no new and concrete evidence necessitating a re-evaluation was found were decisive factors.
Thus, it was stated that the evaluation in the Narin Güran murder case was made in line with the decisions given during the judicial process.
SENTENCES FOR 3 DEFENDANTS UPHELD
A public lawsuit was filed against 4 defendants with the indictment dated October 21, 2024, by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Following the hearings held on December 26-27-28, 2024, the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court sentenced mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and uncle Salim Güran to aggravated life imprisonment for intentional killing committed together.
The court sentenced Nevzat Bahtiyar to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of destroying, concealing, or altering crime evidence. In the appellate review of the decision, the resulting sentences for the defendants did not change.
The 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation upheld the conviction decisions given for mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and uncle Salim Güran.
NEVZAT BAHTIYAR'S SITUATION RE-EVALUATED
The Court of Cassation, however, overturned the 4-year and 6-month prison sentence given to Nevzat Bahtiyar. Following the overturning decision, the case file was sent back to the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court.
As a result of the retrial, Bahtiyar's action was evaluated under the scope of "aiding the crime of qualified intentional killing," and he was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
