A new development has emerged regarding the footage of the wife of the owner of a nursing home located in Büyükçekmece, who assaulted an elderly man staying at the facility while wearing gloves. The suspect, who claimed that the elderly man had been violent towards other patients, wandered around other rooms naked at night, and hit his head against the walls during a crisis, was arrested for the crime of "intentional injury."
On November 20, a report was made to the Esenyurt Care Rehabilitation and Family Counseling Center Directorate via ALO 183, alleging that elderly Abdulkadir Taşar, who was staying at the Private Büyük Marmara Nursing Home located in the Güzelce neighborhood of Büyükçekmece district in Istanbul, was subjected to violence.
HE ASSAULTED THE ELDERLY MAN WEARING GLOVES
Following the report, on December 17, columnist Erdem Atay shared a 54-second video on his social media account, showing the owner of the nursing home’s wife, E.K., physically assaulting Taşar. The footage captured moments where the suspect assaulted the elderly man while wearing gloves.
In response, the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated two separate investigations.
THE ELDERLY MAN PASSED AWAY IN 2024
During the investigations, it was determined that Taşar was hospitalized in 2023 and passed away in 2024, and that numerous similar incidents occurred during the nursing home's operation, with the suspect E.K. having previously threatened staff members who worked at the facility.
In her statement, the detained suspect E.K. claimed that she had no connection to the institution, that it was her husband’s establishment, and that she was only helping him.
ALLEGATION OF "WANDERING NAKED AT NIGHT"
E.K. alleged that Taşar suffered from Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, mood disorders, and an inability to control his sexual urges, stating that he had been violent towards the staff and other patients at the care center, wandered around naked at night, and hit his head against the walls during a crisis.
WORE GLOVES BECAUSE HE PLAYED WITH HIS FECES AND URINE
E.K. claimed that on the day of the incident, she took the distressed Taşar to the seating area to calm him down, stating that she wore gloves because he was playing with his own feces and urine, and that she did not use violence but only wanted to soothe him. She asserted that Taşar was taken to intensive care in 2024 due to his illness and passed away naturally, claiming that she had filmed the videos herself.
HE WAS ARRESTED
The suspect E.K. was arrested by the judge at the Büyükçekmece Courthouse after her procedures at the police station.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In a written statement made by the Ministry of Family and Social Services on December 17, it was noted that immediately after the detection of the footage, the relevant teams from the Provincial Directorate promptly visited the private elderly care center, and necessary investigations were initiated.
Additionally, it was stated that an investigator was assigned by the Ministry and a criminal complaint was filed with the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office simultaneously. The statement included the following:
"As an administrative measure, the responsible management and work approval of Y.K. has been revoked. As a result of the investigator's examination, an administrative fine was imposed on the private elderly care center, and all necessary sanctions, including closure of the relevant institution, will be applied without hesitation depending on the outcome of the judicial proceedings."
