After the decline in oil prices, gasoline prices were reduced by 3 lira and diesel by 4 lira and 58 kuruş. Due to the "Eşel mobil system," the discount reflected in pump prices was 75 kuruş for gasoline and 1 lira and 15 kuruş for diesel.
The decrease in oil prices has reflected as a reduction in fuel prices in Turkey. As of Thursday, March 12, a discount of 3 lira on gasoline and 4 lira 58 kuruş on diesel has been implemented. However, due to the escalator mobile system, not all of the discount has been reflected in pump prices.
DOUBLE DISCOUNT ON FUEL
According to the regulation, only 75 kuruş of the 3 lira discount on gasoline has been reflected in the pump price, while the equivalent of the 4 lira 58 kuruş discount on diesel at the pump has become 1 lira 15 kuruş. The remaining amount has been balanced through tax adjustments.

Global oil prices are fluctuating due to the geopolitical risks created by the war between the USA/Israel and Iran, which started on February 28 and continues to have an impact. This volatility in international markets plays an important role in determining fuel prices.
GOVERNMENT BALANCING PRICE INCREASES WITH TAXES
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated in a statement on March 5 that approximately 75% of the increases in fuel prices have been covered by tax regulations. The escalator mobile system implemented in Turkey aims to limit the reflection of fuel prices to consumers.

WHAT IS THE ESCALATOR MOBILE SYSTEM?
In the escalator mobile system, price increases in fuel due to international oil prices and exchange rates are covered by the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV). The VAT related to this is also waived. For example, if the increase is 10 lira, only 2.5 lira of this amount will be reflected in the market price. The remaining 7.5 lira is covered by taxes. Similarly, discounts on fuel are also deducted from ÖTV through the escalator mobile system.
