Work is ongoing for a new head coach at Hull City, one of the teams in the England Championship. After a poor season in the Championship, finishing in 21st place, Hull City parted ways with head coach Ruben Selles.
"DISCUSSIONS ARE CONTINUING"
Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail from the English press, Acun Ilıcalı stated that discussions for a new head coach are ongoing.
"I AM VERY HAPPY"
In his statement, Ilıcalı said, "Today was a beautiful day for me because I am very happy with our discussions and I think we are in a good place. Today was an important day for us because I believe we are at least two steps closer to our decision."
"WE WILL ANNOUNCE SOON"
Ilıcalı mentioned that Hull City's new head coach could be announced shortly, saying, "I can say that it won't take more than a week. I don't want to talk too much about the possibilities of head coaches because I don't feel good when I do. It feels like judging them. I believe all the head coaches we have discussed are very good."
Regarding Antalyaspor's head coach Emre Belözoğlu and Al-Ettifaq's assistant coach Michael Beale, Ilıcalı said, "I think Emre is a top-level head coach. When you talk to Michael Beale, you realize he knows a lot about the game." The report stated that Emre Belözoğlu is not one of the potential candidates.
Ilıcalı continued his remarks about the new head coach, saying, "Don't forget that these agreements are not easy agreements. These decisions are not easy decisions. We must also keep in mind that the more successful the manager is, the more the budgets increase, which must be the case. This is the rule of life. The more successful you are, the more valuable you are. When you prove your success, you have a larger budget (demands)."
"WE MUST BE THE DECISION-MAKERS"
For Ruben Selles, who has left his position, Acun Ilıcalı said, "Ruben is a great guy, and I think he will be a very good head coach, but you have to make choices. That's why we had to hold meetings when we finished the season. In these meetings, I clearly stated that what I wanted was the best for the club and these wonderful people who support Hull City. We must be the decision-makers. The final person to approve the decision is me. From our perspective, I felt that now is the right time for change to maximize our chances of being successful compared to next season."
"I WANT SUCCESS"
Ilıcalı also stated, "I want success. Our head coach needs to offer two things. First, results, and then entertaining football for the fans. Unfortunately, I don't think we have managed to bring both together so far. My goal is to have a team that gets good results and plays entertaining football. I certainly don't like changing head coaches, but unfortunately, we had to change the head coach until we find the right line to achieve success in these two areas."
