A farmer named Aziz Kaya, 32, who was being treated in hospital in Sivas on suspicion of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), died despite all the doctors' interventions. With this latest death, the number of tick-related deaths in the city this year has reached 13.
Aziz Kaya (32), a married father of two who was engaged in farming in the village of Belcik, affiliated with the Yıldızeli district of Sivas, had a tick attach to his body approximately 20 days ago. After a while following the tick contact, Kaya fell ill, and as his condition worsened, his relatives took action.
INTERVENTIONS WERE INSUFFICIENT
Aziz Kaya, who was brought to Sivas Cumhuriyet University Medical Faculty Hospital with complaints such as high fever, vomiting, and weakness, was taken under treatment in the anesthesia and intensive care unit on suspicion of CCHF. The young farmer, who had been fighting for his life in the intensive care unit for days, could not be saved despite all interventions and lost his life. After the procedures at the hospital morgue were completed, Kaya's lifeless body was handed over to his family and taken to his hometown, the village of Belcik, to be sent off on his final journey.
DEATH TOLL RISES TO 13
With cases referred from Sivas and surrounding provinces (especially from Tokat), the number of people who died due to CCHF this year at Sivas Cumhuriyet University Medical Faculty Hospital has increased to 13. Experts emphasize that citizens must be extremely careful regarding tick contact against the risk of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever.
