According to the data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), card spending amounting to 321 billion lira occurred during the week of March 29 - April 4, which includes the Ramadan Bayram holiday. April 2, when calls for a boycott were made, became the day with the highest spending of the week at 70 billion lira.

321 BILLION LIRA CARD SPENDING DURING THE HOLIDAY PERIOD

The Central Bank published the Bank and Credit Card Sector Spending Statistics for the relevant week. Accordingly, compared to the 214 billion lira card spending that occurred during the Kurban Bayram holiday period from June 15-21 last year, this year, card spending reached 321 billion lira during the Ramadan Bayram holiday period from March 29 to April 4.

24% DECREASE IN CARD SPENDING

Statistics indicate that consumer spending generally decreased during holiday weeks in previous periods. According to the statistics, there was a 33% decrease in card spending during the last holiday period, which was the 2024 Kurban Bayram week, compared to the previous week. In the most recently announced data, during the Ramadan Bayram holiday week, which includes April 2 when calls for a boycott were made, the decrease in card spending was 24% compared to the previous week, showing a positive outcome compared to the previous holiday period.

When comparing card spending during the last two holidays, it was revealed that there was a 50% increase in spending during the relevant week compared to the previous holiday.
