Following the alleged WhatsApp messages between Özkan Yalım and Özgür Özel, the CHP side took action. Özel's lawyers applied to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to recover all correspondence, including deleted ones.
The WhatsApp messages allegedly exchanged between dismissed Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel have taken center stage in politics. Following the development, Özel's lawyers applied to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, demanding the retrieval of all WhatsApp records.
“PUT IT IN THE BLUE SUITCASE” MESSAGE BECAME A TRENDING TOPIC
Some reports that emerged in the public included WhatsApp messages allegedly exchanged between Özkan Yalım and Özgür Özel. In the said correspondence, Özel was seen sending a message to Yalım saying, “Özkan, tomorrow, as a solid package, put it in my blue suitcase in my car in Denizli,” to which Yalım replied, “Okay.” Meanwhile, Özkan Yalım, in his testimony under effective remorse, claimed that Özgür Özel demanded 1 million lira from him and that he delivered this money.
ÖZEL'S LAWYERS TOOK ACTION
Following the controversies, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's lawyers took action. CHP Deputy Group Chair Gökhan Günaydın, who made a statement on the matter, announced that an application had been made to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
“ALL WHATSAPP CORRESPONDENCES MUST BE RECALLED”
Günaydın stated that the application demanded the retrieval of all WhatsApp correspondences between Özgür Özel and Özkan Yalım. “The chairman's lawyers made an application to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. As you know, all WhatsApp correspondences, including deleted ones, can be recalled,” said Günaydın, using the following words: “It has been requested that all WhatsApp correspondences between Mr. Özgür Özel and Özkan Yalım, including photos and images in their content, be recalled and added to the case file.”
Günaydın included the following statements in his remarks:
“The chairman's lawyers made an application to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. As you know, all WhatsApp correspondences, including deleted ones, can be recalled. It has been requested that all WhatsApp correspondences between Mr. Özgür Özel and Özkan Yalım, including photos and images in their content, be recalled and added to the case file.
Why did we do this? Because in those messages, there are words that were not said, and photos that were not used...
An effort has been made, either by using other photos or by deleting existing photos, to create a different perception. There is absolutely no financial matter in the mentioned correspondence.
When these WhatsApp correspondences are added to the case file, this truth will be seen.”
