Today is the anniversary of the First İnönü Victory. İsmet İnönü means Turkey and the Republic of Turkey. It means not dropping the book from your hand on the battlefields. It means subscribing to a German chess magazine while the country has so many troubles. It means developing an interest in English after the age of 50 while knowing French. While contemporaries like Mussolini and Hitler brought great disasters with their power, wars, blood, and passions, it means keeping the army outside of World War II and tying bread and sugar to rationing because he kept a war stock for any eventuality.
