Following the arrest of Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, the possibility of the municipality switching to the AK Party due to a majority has come to the forefront. CHP leader Özel, who made a statement after visiting İmamoğlu in prison, said, "Those who cannot win Gaziosmanpaşa are trying to arrest our mayor and bring in someone from the AK Party. They will collapse the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality using this method."
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited the imprisoned Ekrem İmamoğlu at the Marmara Prison in Silivri. After the visit, Özel made striking statements.

CHP leader Özel reacted strongly to the arrest of Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe in a corruption investigation. Reminding that the majority in the municipal council is from the AK Party, Özel said: "Those who cannot win Gaziosmanpaşa are trying to arrest our mayor and bring in someone from the AK Party. They have resorted to such a cheap tactic. This is a job passed by the AK Party members in the council.
The person they slandered, Aziz İhsan Aktaş, says he gave a bribe. There is no footage, no evidence. I read it with shame. The prosecutor presents the HTS record conflicts to Aktaş.
