CHP Leader Özgür Özel and his companions arrived at Silivri Prison at 08:15 with two vehicles. Özgür Özel's meeting with Ahmet Özer is ongoing.
WHAT CAUSED THE CRISIS
CHP General Chairman Özgür Özel stated during his party's group meeting the other day that they could not meet with Ahmet Özer; "It is time to expose a scandal. We wrote to the Ministry of Justice on the day Ahmet Özer was arrested. Normally, members of parliament can meet with detainees and convicts at any time without delay. If the crime is terrorism, there is a provision with the knowledge of the Ministry of Justice. Until today, whenever we applied for someone, a letter would go out from the first day. For 28 days, they have not responded to the documents for a meeting with Ahmet Özer for the chairman of the CHP, the deputy chairmen, and the members of parliament. I have called the Minister of Justice several times. He said every time, 'Let's get through this week, let's see Monday.' That Monday has not come for a month," he stated.
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç, in his response to Özel, said, "If you are going to ask for permission, ask like a man. You cannot ask for permission by insulting our president or by saying that judicial members are either guillotines or FETÖ imams."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ahmet Özer was arrested on October 30 on charges of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization" and was sent to prison, and a trustee was appointed in his place.
