After the arrest and suspension of Alaattin Köseler, Özlem Vural Gürzel was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Beykoz. Gürzel received the votes of 18 council members.
"The accusation of 'manipulating a tender' led to the arrest of Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, and following his suspension from duty, the municipal council members gathered and elected a deputy mayor. The candidate from the CHP was Özlem Vural Gürzel, while the candidate from the AK Party was Sadullah Hasanoğlu.
RECEIVED THE VOTE OF 18 MUNICIPAL COUNCIL MEMBERS
Currently, there are 18 council members from the CHP, 11 from the AK Party, and 2 from the MHP. Özlem Vural Gürzel was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Beykoz. Gürzel received the votes of 18 municipal council members. Özlem Vural Gürzel will carry out the duties of the mayor until Köseler returns to office.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued arrest, detention, search, and seizure orders for 4 suspects, including Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, for the crime of 'manipulating a tender', and for 17 suspects for 'manipulating a tender' and 'establishing, joining, and aiding an organization for the purpose of committing a crime.'
On February 27, Köseler and 20 suspects were detained by the Financial Crimes Investigation Unit of the Istanbul Police Department. The suspects were taken to the Vatan Campus of the Istanbul Police Department. Early in the morning, searches and seizure operations were conducted at the Beykoz Municipality building, which was surrounded by police barriers. The teams took some documents from the municipality as evidence and transported them to the police station in bags. With the detention of one more person as part of the investigation, the number of suspects rose to 22.
After completing their procedures at the police station, the suspects were brought to the courthouse following health checks at the hospital. The prosecutor's office referred 18 suspects, including Köseler, to the peace court with a request for their arrest, while judicial control was requested for 4 suspects.
The on-duty peace court ruled for the arrest of 13 suspects, including Köseler, while 9 suspects were released under judicial control. The Ministry of Interior announced that Köseler had been suspended from duty.
