The Karaağaç Stream, which gives its name to the Karaağaç neighborhood in the Kapaklı district of Tekirdağ, began to flow in black color in the morning hours.
THE STREAM STARTED TO FLOW BLACK, REACTION FROM AK PARTY MEMBER
While the locals reported the situation to the authorities upon witnessing the change in the stream, Metin Kanat, a member of the Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Council and Kapaklı Municipality Council from the AK Party, also came to the region to conduct an inspection.
Kanat claimed that the stream was polluted due to chemicals left by some companies in the Çerkezköy Organized Industrial Zone (OSB), stating, "There is a collector line of the OSB here. Some factories are threatening public health by dumping their waste into the stormwater line instead of the collector line. They are poisoning our people by leaving chemicals in the stormwater line just to avoid paying for the collector line."
"THE COMPANY SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED AND PUNISHED"
Kanat, who stated that they have encountered such situations before, said, "I have now reported the situation to the Tekirdağ Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization. There is a school, a health center, a mosque, and a children's park near this stream. Hundreds of our people pass by this stream every day. No one can violate the health of our people for the sake of making money. Those who neglect public health should be given the heaviest penalties.
If necessary, we will take the issue to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. We will submit our complaints to all necessary authorities. I am a member of the Cumhur Alliance municipal council. I also call on our opposition members of parliament and the metropolitan municipality; come and see how they are poisoning people here. I invite all relevant authorities to take action regarding this matter," he said.
