The "Will Amputee Football Team," composed of athletes who lost their limbs during Israel's two-year attacks in the Gaza Strip, thanked Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola for his supportive statement towards Palestine.
The players of the Will Amputee Football Team accepted Guardiola as the honorary coach of the team with a video they recorded. An amputee football player from the team said, "We sincerely thank world-renowned coach Pep for his humanitarian stance. We especially thank him for standing by the people of Gaza and Palestine in general."
The Palestinian football player conveyed that it is important for Guardiola to stand with Gaza rather than with the powerful, stating, "This is a declaration for Palestine and also a declaration made on behalf of humanity." Amputee football players shared images of themselves playing football among the ruins in Gaza while holding a photo of Guardiola with a Palestinian keffiyeh.
HIS SPEECH HAD GARNERED ATTENTION
Guardiola began his statement on January 30 by saying, "Good evening, peace be upon you."
The Spanish coach expressed, "I know what we think when we see a child on social media, on television, begging 'where is my mother?' among the rubble, and I always think, what could they be thinking? I think we left them alone, we abandoned them. I always imagine them saying, 'Where are you? Come, help us.' and so far, even now, we have not done that."
