The case against İbrahim Yılmaz, who was accused of engaging in illegal betting and directing his followers to this system, has concluded. The court found Yılmaz guilty of promoting fixed-odds or pool betting games based on sports competitions and sentenced him to 10 months in prison and a 100 TL administrative fine. The court decided to suspend the announcement of the verdict in this case.
The case of social media phenomenon İbrahim Yılmaz, who is accused of "encouraging individuals to advertise and otherwise promote fixed-odds or pool betting or gambling based on sports events" and facing a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years for illegal betting advertising in Istanbul, has been concluded. The hearing at the Istanbul 24th Criminal Court of First Instance was attended by the defendant İbrahim Yılmaz, who is not in custody, and his lawyer.
PRISON SENTENCE IMPOSED
During the hearing, the defendant Yılmaz, when asked for his final words, stated that he did not accept the charges against him and requested his acquittal from the court. The defendant's lawyer, who made a defense, also requested the acquittal of his client. After the defenses were heard, the court announced its decision, sentencing the defendant İbrahim Yılmaz to 10 months in prison and a fine of 100 Turkish Liras for the crime of "encouraging individuals to advertise and otherwise promote fixed-odds or pool betting or gambling based on sports events." The court decided to suspend the announcement of the verdict for this sentence. Yılmaz had become known on social media for distributing money to those who followed him on the street.
