An incident that occurred recently on the streets of New York has once again sparked a discussion about social sensitivity. A homeless citizen sleeping in a garbage bag was kicked awake by a police officer in the cold weather. According to eyewitnesses, a homeless man wrapped in a black garbage bag was noticed by a patrolling police officer on one of Manhattan's busy streets. However, the method chosen by the officer to wake the man drew significant backlash. The police attempted to wake the homeless citizen by kicking him. A citizen who recorded the incident on his cell phone stated, "It was inhumane behavior. The police officer seemed to have forgotten that the person in front of him was a human being. He could have woken him up in a more gentle manner." A spokesperson for the New York Police Department (NYPD) announced that an investigation has been launched regarding the incident and that the footage is being reviewed. The spokesperson stated, "We expect our officers to always act professionally and respectfully. We are taking this incident seriously." Homeless aid organizations reacted to the incident, emphasizing that there should be greater sensitivity towards people living on the streets during the winter months. Representatives of the organizations noted that there are approximately 70,000 homeless individuals in New York, and most of these people are forced to live on the streets because they cannot find shelter.
