The Vatican reported that after Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of Catholics, experienced "acute respiratory failure" twice today, non-invasive mechanical ventilation (respiratory support) has been resumed to assist him in breathing.
The 88-year-old spiritual leader of Catholics, Pope Francis, has been receiving treatment at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, Italy, since February 14.
EXPERIENCED RESPIRATORY FAILURE TWICE
In a statement from the Vatican, it was reported that after Pope Francis experienced "acute respiratory failure" twice today, non-invasive mechanical ventilation (respiratory support) has been resumed to assist him in breathing.
The statement included the phrase, "Today, the Pope experienced two acute respiratory failure attacks due to endobronchial mucus accumulation," indicating that the Pope developed a bronchospasm (airway constriction) similar to an asthma attack, and doctors performed two bronchoscopy procedures to examine the airways. It was noted that the Pope's health condition is "delicate."
