Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a member of the DEM Party and part of the İmralı delegation, shared details about the phone conversation between the imprisoned former co-chair of the HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş, and the leader of the MHP, Devlet Bahçeli, while visiting his wife Başak Demirtaş, who had undergone surgery in the hospital. Önder stated that the conversation took place through his own phone.
The delegation that met with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı included DEM Party Member of Parliament Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who made statements regarding the agenda. Önder, who participated in a Habertürk broadcast, explained the details of the phone conversation between MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is imprisoned and was visited in the hospital by his wife Başak Demirtaş with special permission after her surgery.
ÖNDER EXPLAINED THE DETAILS OF THE BAHÇELİ-DEMİRTAŞ MEETING
Önder stated that Bahçeli called him and that the meeting took place in this way. Önder said: "Ms. Başak had a health issue, it was a serious condition. It was, in a sense, a life-threatening situation. The doctors decided on a major operation. It is a right granted to all prisoners. In this context, Mr. Demirtaş's lawyers applied to the Ministry of Justice. I and Ms. Pervin intervened to expedite the process. It was presented to the President. He showed sensitivity. On the morning of that night, around 09:00, Mr. Demirtaş was prepared at the hospital where the operation would take place.
Until the operation, he provided moral support to his wife. We also encouraged both of them along with Ms. Pervin. We sent him off to surgery with high morale. I thank all the doctors. All the physicians and staff on that floor mobilized. We, as the Demirtaş family and ourselves, thank them all. The accompanying security personnel behaved very graciously and sensitively. The operation was successful. A few more procedures will be done after the operation. We believe and trust that Ms. Başak is one of the strongest women friends and comrades we know. She will overcome this as well.
"BAHÇELİ CALLED ME, WISHED WELL FOR MS. BAŞAK"
At that moment, Mr. Bahçeli called me. He heard that Mr. Demirtaş's wife was brought to him. Previously, when he had surgery, Mr. Demirtaş had sent a get well message through me. We conveyed both his get well wishes and those of President Selahattin to her. She was very happy and thanked us a lot. When he heard, he called, and we had a very sincere short conversation, wishing health for Ms. Bahçeli. We put my phone on speaker. He wished health for Ms. Başak.
"HE ASKED IF SELAHATTİN BEY NEEDED ANYTHING"
He showed the courtesy to ask if Mr. Selahattin needed anything. Medically and in a hospital-like manner. Hopefully, good days and beautiful days will come, take care of your health, he said. Mr. Selahattin wished the same things. Ms. Pervin and I, along with the lawyers, waited until the results for Ms. Başak came in. Around 10 PM, we escorted Mr. Selahattin back to the prison. This is on a human level.
"AGENDA WAS NOT DISCUSSED"
Neither Mr. Bahçeli nor Mr. Demirtaş would stoop to discuss the agenda there. Mr. Demirtaş has been in prison since the process began and has been consistent in this regard. He is one of our most experienced comrades. Throughout the process, we received suggestions, notes, warnings, and things to pay attention to from him through his lawyers to the President, Mr. Bahçeli, our party, Ms. Pervin, and me. The President, Mr. Bahçeli, and Mr. Öcalan had messages. We conveyed and communicated them.
