TRIED TO HIDE IN THE BACK SEAT Meanwhile, former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was on the front pages of almost all British newspapers today. Many newspapers featured the photo of Andrew trying to hide in the back seat on their front pages.
WHAT HAPPENED? The close relationship of former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor with Epstein was mentioned in documents published by the U.S. Department of Justice, and Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre claimed that she had a relationship with Andrew, who was a prince at the time, when she was just 17 years old.
Mountbatten-Windsor, who denied the allegations, had renounced all his titles, including Duke of York, to avoid harming the Royal Family. However, due to increasing pressures and newly released documents in the last months of the previous year, the title of "Prince" was also taken away by King Charles. The nominal annual rent payment for the residence where Mountbatten-Windsor has stayed since 2003 and the acquisition of a 75-year usage right for 1 million pounds also came to the fore during this period.
The rental of Royal Lodge estate was also discussed in Parliament following public backlash over the funding of Royal revenues and Mountbatten-Windsor's expenses through taxes. In response to Liberal Democrats leader Ed Davey's question, "In light of the revelations regarding Royal Lodge, do you agree to review the Royal Estates to protect taxpayers' interests? Do you support the establishment of an inquiry committee that will call everyone, including the current Royal Lodge resident, to testify?" Prime Minister Keir Starmer replied, "It is important to conduct a proper review when it comes to Royal Estates. I absolutely support it."
Under pressure, Mountbatten-Windsor vacated his home at Windsor Castle and moved to a farmhouse on the estate of Sandringham Palace, which is personally owned by King Charles. It was also revealed that Mountbatten-Windsor's ex-wife Sarah Ferguson had ties to Epstein, and many charities of which Ferguson was an honorary president ended their relationship with the former Duchess of York. The Sarah Foundation, named after Ferguson, which was found to have taken her own daughters to Epstein's island, decided to close down.
