The Ministry of Interior announced that Ayvaz Hazır, the mayor of Bahçesaray district in Van from the Democratic Regions Party (DEMP), has been suspended from duty and a trustee has been appointed in his place. A large group gathered in front of the municipal building to protest Hazır's removal from office.
The Ministry of Interior announced that Ayvaz Hazır, the DEM Party Mayor of Bahçesaray district in Van, has been suspended from duty.
In a statement made by the ministry, it was reminded that Hazır was sentenced to 3 years, 1 month, and 15 days in prison for the crime of "committing crimes on behalf of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization, although not being a member" under the case number 2022/196 of the Van 4th Heavy Criminal Court.
The statement included, "Due to the ongoing investigation regarding the crime of 'propagandizing for the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization' under the case number 2023/130 of the Van 2nd Heavy Criminal Court, Ayvaz Hazır has been suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393."
In the ministry's statement, it was reported that in this context, Harun Arslanargun, the District Governor of Bahçesaray, has been appointed as the Acting Mayor of Bahçesaray by the Van Governorship in accordance with Articles 45 and 46 of the Municipal Law.
PROTESTS HAVE BEGUN
Following the appointment of a trustee to the municipality, protest demonstrations have started in the district. A large crowd gathered in front of the municipal building, chanting slogans such as "Ayvaz President is our will" and "The trustee will go, the people will come."
On the other hand, it was observed that riot police were taking security measures in front of the municipal building.
