Rabies virus was detected in a bovine animal at a livestock enterprise in Gürçayır District, Ardahan Center. While the infected animal was culled, the neighborhood was placed under quarantine to prevent the spread of the virus, and a sign reading 'Rabies exists here' was put up at the entrance.
In a livestock enterprise in the Gürçayır District of Ardahan, central, when a bovine animal suddenly fell ill, the enterprise owner reported the situation to the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams. Upon the notification, veterinarians who went to the address took samples from the suspicious cow. The samples taken were sent to the Erzurum Veterinary Control and Research Institute for examination.
RABIES CONFIRMED
With the tests performed in the laboratory turning out positive, it was confirmed that the animal had the rabies virus. Upon this, the Animal Health teams took action and, to prevent the spread of the virus, culled the diseased animal and buried it in a deep pit.
DISTRICT QUARANTINED
With the aim of protecting public and animal health, authorities initiated a quarantine application in the Gürçayır District and banned the entry and exit of animals in the area. A sign saying "There is rabies disease here" was also hung at the entrance of the district.
It was learned that the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams are intensively continuing their contact tracing and vaccination studies in the region to determine the source of the virus and contact with wild animals.
