The news of rabies coming from Van's Edremit district has caused the region to go into full alarm mode. With an emergency decision taken by the District Animal Health Police Commission, the area where the virus was detected was taken as the center, and a total of 7 neighborhoods were included in quarantine. The free roaming of animals on the streets has been completely banned.
The District Animal Health Police Commission convened urgently following a rabies case detected in Van's Edremit district. With the decision taken, 7 neighborhoods in the district were declared quarantine zones, and very strict restrictions on animal mobility were implemented.
The rabies case that emerged in the Edremit district mobilized local authorities and health teams. Following the case centered in Yeni Camii Neighborhood, Edremit Municipality issued an emergency warning announcement to inform the public and prevent the outbreak. The statement emphasized that strict compliance with quarantine rules is a vital necessity for both human and animal life.
ANIMALS BANNED FROM GOING OUT IN 7 NEIGHBORHOODS
All animal movements have been stopped until further notice in the neighborhoods placed under quarantine: Merkez Cami, Yeni Mahalle, Elmalık, Eminpaşa, Eski Cami, Süphan, and Şabaniye. In line with the decision, the free roaming of cats, dogs, cattle, sheep, and goats on the streets has been completely prohibited. Citizens were informed that they must absolutely keep these animals in farms, barns, shelters, or enclosed areas.
CALL TO "IMMEDIATELY REPORT" SUSPICIOUS SYMPTOMS
Municipal teams urged pet owners not to leave their cats and dogs loose and emphasized avoiding contact with stray animals on the streets. In the vicinity, if a suspicious animal is seen exhibiting:
Excessive salivation,
Aggressive behavior,
Lack of coordination and loss of balance while walking,
residents were asked to report it without delay to the Edremit Municipality or the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.
