Cengiz Çelik, a weather forecast expert at the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM), stated that air temperatures, which have been above seasonal norms, will decrease across the country starting from tonight. Çelik said, 'We will be under the influence of a cool and rainy system for 5 days. Afterwards, we expect temperatures to rise again from the middle of next week.'
MGM Weather Forecast Expert Cengiz Çelik stated that with the arrival of May, cool and rainy weather will take effect. Addressing those who will start the holiday season, Çelik said that precipitation is also expected on the southern coasts.
RAINY WEATHER TO AFFECT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY
Cengiz Çelik, who explained MGM's 5-day weather forecast report to ANKA News Agency, said:
"Our country will come under the influence of a new cool and rainy system arriving from the Black Sea towards tonight. This system will be effective across the entire country on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. We expect precipitation across the country. Temperatures will also drop rapidly starting from the northwest on Friday with this system. We forecast a temperature decrease of approximately 6 to 8 degrees, especially in the northern and western regions. Meanwhile, temperatures that are currently above seasonal norms in some places will fall below seasonal norms, particularly in the northern and western regions."
HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED ON THE MEDITERRANEAN COASTS
Stating that precipitation is expected on the southern coasts, Çelik said, "The Mediterranean coasts in particular will receive slightly more rainfall compared to the Aegean coasts. The region least affected by this system will be western Marmara, around Edirne and Çanakkale, and the coastal Aegean. We expect precipitation there too, but elsewhere, there will be intermittent rainfall over the next 4 days, sometimes heavy. The precipitation will mostly be in the form of showers and thunderstorms, but at elevations above 1,100-1,200 meters, we expect rain mixed with snow over the weekend."
WEEKEND WILL BE RAINY IN ISTANBUL AND ANKARA
Sharing the weather forecast for Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir over the 5-day period, Çelik continued his words:
"Looking at the three major cities, Istanbul and Ankara will see rainy weather over the next 3 days. The precipitation will mostly be in the form of rain and showers. The highest temperatures in Ankara will be 17 degrees Celsius on Friday, dropping to 12 degrees on Sunday. In Istanbul, the weather will start to cool down during the night, with the highest temperatures ranging between 12-13 degrees on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In Izmir, we expect precipitation on Friday and Sunday. Saturday will be very cloudy. The highest temperatures in Izmir will drop from 20 degrees to 15 degrees. We will be under the influence of a cool and rainy system for 5 days. After that, starting from the middle of next week, we expect temperatures to rise again."
