While concerns about drought and water scarcity are being discussed across Turkey, a warning came from Diyarbakır in the opposite direction. The governorship called on citizens to be cautious against potential loss of life and property.
4 PROVINCES ARE BEING MONITORED
In a statement shared by the Diyarbakır Governorship, it was noted that the inflows to the reservoirs under the responsibility of the State Hydraulic Works (DSI) 10th Regional Directorate have significantly increased with the recent rains. The statement expressed that the reservoirs in Batman, Siirt, Mardin, and Şırnak provinces, in addition to Diyarbakır, are also being closely monitored in this context.
In the statement from the DSI 10th Regional Directorate, it was emphasized that the reservoirs are managed within the framework of their operational programs, stating, "Due to the increase in the amount of rainfall falling into the reservoir basins, high inflows to the reservoirs may occur, and controlled discharge operations can be carried out in urgent situations."
WARNING TO CITIZENS ABOUT LIFE AND PROPERTY SAFETY
The governorship made important warnings to citizens to prevent potential risks. In the statement, it was requested that those living in residential areas near riverbeds and streams pay attention to the announcements made and to be made. It was emphasized that necessary precautions should be taken for agricultural lands, vineyards, and gardens located within or near the riverbed, as well as for temporary shelters.
Additionally, it was stated that sand and gravel quarries operating in riverbeds should operate in accordance with regulations, and a call was made not to enter riverbeds during discharge periods and to be cautious against sudden increases in water levels.
