The Independent Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD) responded to criticisms directed at the government during the TÜSİAD General Assembly speech.
"WE MUST ACT BY PRIORITIZING SOCIAL PEACE"
In a statement from the association, it was reported that a broad consultation meeting was held. The statement expressed that Turkey is "in a stable effort regarding exports and investments." It was stated that the current economic situation is viewed not as 'pessimistic' but as 'focused on developing solutions,' and it was emphasized, "Therefore, we believe in the importance of addressing issues within a common framework with all our stakeholders and being able to develop constructive proposals during this critical period Turkey is going through. As the business world, we all must act with a perspective that prioritizes our country's economic growth, employment, and social peace."
In the statement, it was said that 'tight monetary policy is necessary for combating inflation' but not sufficient, emphasizing the need for 'structural reforms.'
REACTION TO TÜSİAD
Regarding the statements of TÜSİAD High Advisory Board member Aras, it was stated, "The statements made recently, which were reflected to the public and claimed to represent the general Turkish business community, unfortunately, have a content that is far from economic development and the business world focus, and that undermines social peace. In the current period, it is expected that civil society organizations representing the business world should act with constructive criticisms rather than a political declaration language, contributing concretely to the country's development journey."
The responsibility of the Turkish business world should be a solution-oriented approach and economic development. As MÜSİAD, we have always adopted a solution-oriented approach. We support the implementation of reforms for Turkey's economic future and continue to contribute with all our strength to improving the business environment," it was stated.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Ömer Aras, the President of the High Advisory Council, who spoke at TÜSİAD's Ordinary General Assembly, addressed many issues from the fire disaster in Kartalkaya to political arrests, from expulsions within the military to the targeting of journalists. Aras stated, "Fires are happening in California, earthquakes in Japan, but the death toll is not this high. Our problem is that security is not prioritized over cost and the system is dysfunctional," criticizing the trustee practices in municipalities and adding, "Detention has become the rule, not the exception. This situation is a chronic problem of the justice system."
A probe had been launched against Aras due to the aforementioned statements.
