Banks are taking new measures against the increasing digital fraud. Starting from next week, users who have not changed their card PIN for a long time will be required to renew their PIN during ATM transactions. This application will be valid across Turkey.
The usage rate of credit and debit cards in Turkey has been increasing every year, which has led fraudsters to shift their methods to the digital realm. In response to the rising complaints, banks are preparing to implement a new application aimed at enhancing user security.
According to information obtained from banking sources, many banks will force card users to change their passwords starting next week. In this context, users who have not updated their card passwords for a long time will encounter a warning screen when they attempt to perform transactions at ATMs, and they will be asked to renew their current passwords.
NEW ERA IN DIGITAL PASSWORDS
Currently, users are required to renew their digital passwords at least once every 6 months for transactions made through internet banking and mobile branches. The new passwords must be different from the last three passwords. This application will now also apply to card transactions made at ATMs. Thus, digital security will be tightened not only in mobile channels but also in physical transactions.
NO OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION FROM BDDK
Although the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) has not yet published an official regulation, industry sources indicate that this application will be launched simultaneously by many banks across Turkey.
VALID IN 81 PROVINCES
The new application will be valid at ATMs in all 81 provinces of Turkey. Users will encounter a mandatory password update screen at certain intervals when they insert their cards and start transactions.
