AT LEAST 312 PEOPLE HAVE DIED
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) reported that at least 321 people have lost their lives in the clashes between an alliance of Bedouin Arabs and tribal forces and some Druze groups in the southern province of Sweida.
According to a statement from SNHR, which documents human rights violations against civilians in Syria, at least 321 people, including 6 children and 9 women, lost their lives in the clashes in Sweida between July 13-18, and more than 436 people were injured.
The clashes between the alliance of Bedouin Arabs and tribal forces and some Druze groups continue in the western and northern fronts of Sweida province.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Small-scale clashes began on July 13 between Bedouin Arab tribes and some armed Druze groups in the southern province of Sweida.
Dozens of soldiers were killed in attacks by some Druze groups on the Syrian security forces deployed to the region. After the clashes between the security forces and some local armed Druze groups escalated, a ceasefire was established between the parties.
While the ceasefire was quickly broken, the Israeli army carried out attacks targeting Syrian security forces. On July 16, the Israeli Air Force struck the presidential compound, the General Staff, and the Ministry of Defense in Syria.
On the same day in Sweida, a ceasefire was re-established between the government and local groups while Israeli fighter jets carried out attacks on Damascus and Daraa.
After the agreement, clashes reignited yesterday between the two sides as some armed Druze groups began forcibly displacing Bedouin Arabs, while security forces did not intervene.
In Sweida, where security forces have withdrawn, it is estimated that hundreds of people have lost their lives in the clashes and Israeli attacks. A humanitarian crisis is occurring in the region where food, electricity, and water cannot be supplied due to the clashes.
