Al-Misehal made a statement on his social media account, saying, "The national team's failure to advance to the next round in the World Cup is a result that falls short of all our goals, and I take full responsibility for it. Therefore, I have decided not to continue until the end of my current term."

Al-Misehal, who served as president of Saudi Arabia for 7 years, played a major role in his country winning the bid to host the FIFA 2034 World Cup.
