A campaign has been launched to make California "Danish territory" in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to purchase Greenland, which is a territory of Denmark.
In response to U.S. President Donald Trump's purchase plan, a campaign has been launched for 'California to become Danish territory.'
A striking response came from the Danes to Trump's moves to purchase Greenland, an autonomous region of Denmark.
THEY WANTED CALIFORNIA
On the website called 'Denmarkification,' a campaign has been launched against the plan to purchase Greenland, aiming for 'California to become Danish territory.' In a statement regarding the petition campaign, it was reported that the campaign aims to purchase the state of California from the U.S. and turn it into Danish territory in response to Trump's plan to buy Greenland.
"IF TRUMP WANTS, HE WILL SELL"
In a statement noting that Trump is not fond of California, which is one of the Democratic strongholds, it was said, "Trump is not the biggest fan of California. We are sure that he would be willing to give it up for the right price. If Trump wants to sell California, he will."
The statement listed reasons for choosing California, including its warm climate, dominance in technology, avocado production, the freedoms it offers, and the presence of one of the country's most famous amusement parks, Disneyland, adding that "to sweeten the deal, we will even provide lifetime Danish pastries."
WHAT DID TRUMP SAY?
On December 23, 2024, Trump reiterated his statement that Greenland should be under the control of his country in a post on his Truth Social account, arguing that owning and controlling the island is an "absolute necessity"; these words from President Trump drew reactions from many, especially Greenlandic officials.
Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Bourup Egede stated, "Greenland belongs to the Greenlandic people. We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We will not lose our long-standing struggle for freedom."
Greenland, one of the two autonomous regions under the Kingdom of Denmark, is located 2,900 kilometers away from Denmark.
