Following new US attacks on Iran around the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced that they targeted US military posts in Kuwait and Bahrain with missiles and drones. Tehran stated the attacks were retaliation for US operations against Iranian coastlines, warning of harsher responses if further violations occur. The tensions between the parties have also jeopardized the Islamabad Agreement signed on June 14.
A drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, following an agreement between the US and Iran, brought the two countries back to the brink of war. After mutual accusations, tensions escalated in the region, and consecutive air and military operations began. Following the retaliations carried out by both sides yesterday, the US military launched further attacks on Iran today. After the US operations, a new retaliation came from Iran.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its naval and aerospace forces jointly conducted a missile and drone operation targeting US military points in Kuwait and Bahrain.
In a statement published by Iranian media, it was stated that the attacks were in response to alleged US attacks on Iran's coastal areas. The statement also warned of an "overwhelming response" to any potential new violations and said that future operations against ships would be further intensified.
CONSECUTIVE EXPLOSIONS AROUND THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ
Iran's state television reported that explosion sounds were heard in the village of Tahiruyi in Sirik city, Hormozgan province in southern Iran. According to information based on a military source, the explosion sounds were caused by an attack on a communication tower in the village. It was also reported that the village of Mesen on Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz, was targeted in an attack by the US military.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) also confirmed Iran's state television and announced that it had attacked some targets in the country, citing Iran's "attacks on commercial shipping" in the Strait of Hormuz. In the command's statement, it was said, "CENTCOM forces, at the direction of the Commander-in-Chief (US President Donald Trump), conducted additional attacks on various targets in Iran on June 27."
In the statement, which recalled that the US responded after Iran's attacks on a commercial ship yesterday, it was noted that Iran was given the "opportunity to adhere to the ceasefire agreement," but Iran "did not choose this path" with a new drone attack this morning on a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker. The statement continued, "CENTCOM forces conducted attacks today as a direct response to Iran's ongoing aggression against commercial maritime shipping. US military aircraft targeted Iran's military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense positions, drone storage facilities, and mine-laying capabilities."
In the statement, which noted that commercial ship passages continue through the Strait of Hormuz, it was emphasized that US forces are "on high alert, with high deterrent power, and ready to act at any moment."
THE INITIAL EVENT THAT TRIGGERED THE PROCESS: ATTACK ON A CARGO SHIP
The starting point of the re-escalated tension in the Middle East was an incident reported with an emergency code by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). UKMTO announced that a commercial cargo ship sailing off the coast of Oman was hit by a projectile/drone of undetermined origin. It was reported that the crew on the ship, which suffered damage to the bridge, were not injured and there was no environmental pollution.
TRUMP'S "STUPID VIOLATION" STATEMENT AND US OPERATION
Following the ship attack that sparked the crisis, US President Donald Trump made a harsh statement. Trump, who claimed Iran was behind the attack, described the action as a "stupid violation" of the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran. Stating that a total of four drones attacked the cargo ship, three of which were shot down by US forces but one hit the ship and caused damage, Trump signaled retaliation, saying "You will find out soon."
Shortly after this statement, the US military acted last night. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that US fighter jets conducted an operation around the Strait of Hormuz, striking Iran's missile and drone storage areas and coastal radar facilities. In the CENTCOM statement, it was emphasized that the safe passage of commercial ships would continue to be ensured and that vigilance would be maintained in the region for Iran to strictly comply with the terms of the agreement.
PIER HIT, WARNING SHOTS FIRED
According to a report by Iran's state television citing military sources, the Taheruyi Pier in Sirik city, Hormozgan Province in southern Iran, was the target of an "enemy attack," and loud explosion sounds were heard in the area.
Military sources also confirmed that during the day, the Iranian Armed Forces fired warning shots from Sirik city at some ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz "without permission."
RETALIATION AGAINST US BASES HAD ALSO OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY
After the US struck strategic points, a countermove also came from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) earlier. In an IRGC statement read on Iran's state television, it was announced that US bases in the Gulf region were targeted in retaliatory attacks. In the statement, which argued that the Washington administration had violated the terms of the agreement, a stern warning was issued to the US, saying, "If aggression is repeated, our response will be more comprehensive than this."
Iranian Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Chairman Ebrahim Azizi also reacted to the developments, stating that the US had recklessly violated the ceasefire and that this situation would result in regret.
JUNE 14 ISLAMABAD AGREEMENT IN DANGER
The latest developments cast a shadow over the peace hopes that the parties had just recently signed. As will be recalled, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump signed a 14-point memorandum digitally on June 14, called the "Islamabad Agreement," mediated by Pakistan.
The agreement included the following important headings:
- Ending the state of war in the region, including Lebanon.
- Opening the Strait of Hormuz to international maritime traffic.
- Lifting the US naval blockade on Iran.
- Initiating a 60-day negotiation process for Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.
