RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin: Inspections on street interviews will be tightened

SHAHIN: WE WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE NECESSARY STEPS

In a statement made through his social media account, Şahin said, "In our previous statements, we pointed out that the content published under the name of 'street interviews' in various media leads to division, manipulation, and misinformation in society, and we expressed that we would follow up on such broadcasts. However, we regret to see that some circles disregard the sensitivities of our society, persistently continuing broadcasts that trample on human dignity, target certain groups, and incite hate speech. Recently, a street interview directed at a citizen, which exceeds moral and legal boundaries and contains severe insults and disrespect, constitutes a clear violation of rights outside the scope of press professional principles and freedom of expression. Legal proceedings have been initiated against this person, who insulted our citizen by belittling and humiliating them without knowing their education, culture, or personality under the guise of a street interview, and a criminal complaint will be filed with the Public Prosecutor's Office. Furthermore, there will be no tolerance for such content that incites hatred and hostility in society and fuels discrimination; our inspections on street interviews will be tightened and continued with determination. As the Radio and Television Supreme Council, we will continue to approach any violation against the dignity, reputation, and personal rights of our citizens with sensitivity and to take the necessary steps to protect the law and ethical principles in the audiovisual media field," he stated.
