Russia said on Wednesday that it received a written response from the US to its proposal about security guarantees.

According to a written statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, US Ambassador in Moscow John Sullivan arrived at the ministry building to deliver the US response in person.

Sullivan met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksander Grushko at the ministry, the statement also said.

Russia recently amassed 100,000 troops near Ukraine, prompting fears that the Kremlin could be planning another military offensive against its ex-Soviet neighbor.

Moscow has denied it is preparing to invade and said its troops are there for exercises. It has, instead, issued a list of security demands to the US and NATO, including Ukraine not joining NATO, to calm existing tensions. -
