The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that they have taken control of 8 settlements in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions of Ukraine in one week. The statement also noted that intense attacks were carried out against Ukraine.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that they captured 8 settlements in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions of Ukraine within a week.
The ministry made a written statement regarding the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine from January 31 to February 6.
"WE CONDUCTED INTENSE ATTACKS"
In the statement, it was noted that Kiev carried out "terror" attacks on civilian elements in Russian territory, and in response, intense attacks were conducted throughout the week on military defense facilities, energy plants, transportation infrastructure, ammunition depots, and drone (UAV) production and storage centers in Ukraine.
"8 SETTLEMENTS CHANGED HANDS"
The statement reported that 8 settlements in Ukraine were captured by the Russian army in the last week, using the expression, "In the Kharkiv region, Zelenoye; in the Sumy region, Popovka; in the Zaporizhzhia region, Staroukrayinka, Petrovka, and Pridorojnoye; and in the Donetsk People's Republic, the settlements of Toretskoye, Suhetskoye, and Stepanovka were liberated."
The statement also mentioned that since the beginning of the war, 670 aircraft, 283 helicopters, more than 112,000 drones, 650 air defense missile systems, 27,522 tanks and armored vehicles, 1,659 multiple rocket launchers, over 33,000 howitzers and mortars, and more than 53,700 special military vehicles belonging to the Ukrainian army have been destroyed.
WAR HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 4 YEARS
In February 2022, Russian President Putin declared war on Ukraine. In the war that has been ongoing for 4 years between the parties, many civilians have lost their lives.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On the other hand, during the negotiations held on May 16, 2025, at the Presidential Dolmabahçe Working Office in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine, both sides agreed to continue negotiations after detailed presentations on a comprehensive prisoner exchange of "1000 for 1000" and possible ceasefire discussions.
As a result of the negotiations held in Istanbul on June 2, 2025, the parties reached an agreement on the delivery of frozen bodies of 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers, the exchange of severely ill and injured soldiers, and the exchange of captured soldiers under the age of 25.
Again, in the meetings held in Istanbul in July 2025, they agreed on issues such as another exchange of 1,200 people and the release of individuals who had been held captive for more than 3 years.
