Russian state television drew attention by broadcasting naked photos of Melania Trump taken for British GQ magazine in 2000 while celebrating Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 elections. In the "60 Minutes" program aired on the country's most-watched channel, Russia-1, host Yevgeny Popov stated that the former first lady was preparing to return to the White House, while showing photos of Melania on screen with his wife and co-host Olga Skabeeva. While describing the photos in detail, the host said, "This is how Melania looked in 2000. The future first lady is seen in sexy photos taken next to a private jet and inside the plane." The photos had also come to the fore during Trump's first presidential campaign in 2016. At that time, a Super PAC had launched a digital advertising campaign using these photos to support Ted Cruz. In a post on her social media account in September, Melania Trump defended her nude modeling work, stating, "Can we not appreciate the beauty of the human body anymore? Great artists throughout history have exalted the human form. We should honor our bodies and embrace the tradition of using art as a powerful means of self-expression." Discovered at the age of 16, Melania modeled in Paris, Milan, and New York in the 1990s and early 2000s, and met Trump at a New York Fashion Week party in 1998.
