It has emerged that Sabri Ugan, a journalist and sports commentator from Sakarya, told his brother, journalist Raif Ugan, about his last wish before he died. In his will, Ugan expressed his desire for the funeral prayer to be held at Adapazarı Orhan Mosque and to be buried on top of his father.



Sabri Ugan, who passed away due to pancreatic cancer, will be brought to Sakarya after a memorial ceremony to be held on Tuesday, July 1, at 10:30 AM at the Levent Sports Writers Association, followed by the noon prayer at Levent Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque. Ugan's funeral will be buried in the family grave at Emirdağ Cemetery after the afternoon prayer at Orhan Mosque in Adapazarı.



WHO IS SABRİ UGAN?



Born in 1968 in Sakarya, Sabri Ugan began his journalism career as a reporter at a local newspaper in 1985. In 1991, he was appointed as the sports director at the same newspaper, and he experienced his first commentary by narrating a match of Sakaryaspor. His performance in this match shaped his career in the media sector.



In 1994, Ugan transferred to Kanal 6 as an editor, and later moved to Star TV, where he commented on matches of the Turkish Super League, Champions League, and UEFA Europa League. Gaining the appreciation of viewers with his narration and unique style, Ugan became a significant figure in sports commentary. After leaving Doğan Group, Ugan worked at various television channels and also commented on sports such as basketball and volleyball, in addition to football.



Besides his commentary career, Sabri Ugan was also known for his writing. He authored a book titled "Arda Turan: The Lion-Hearted Captain," which focuses on the life of national football player Arda Turan. The book was seen as a reflection of Ugan's close relationships with athletes and his narrative power. He passed away on June 29, 2025, in the hospital where he was receiving treatment for lung issues.
